The 2008 United States Presidential election is less than eight weeks away, yet no one has, to my knowledge, raised any questions about Republican nominee John McCain's mental health stability.
McCain suffered severe torture at the hands of his captors while he was held as a POW during the Vietnam War, which could have had a tremendous mental impact on him.
For example, does he suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
While on the campaign trail, McCain has made weird jokes that are disturbing and should set off an alarm about his mental stability.
For example, McCain made a comment about bombing Iran stating "...Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb-Bomb Iran..." And then said "That was a joke," while a weird laugh signaled a complete lack of humor.
McCain has shown a macho attitude in his approach toward dealing with America's "enemies," which is not unlike the John Wayne, George W. Bush "Shoot first, ask questions later" mentality, that got us involved in this never ending Iraq war.
McCain has stated over and over, "I know how to win wars." Yet, there is nothing in his background which supports his declaration that he possess such knowledge.
It does, however show that he relishes the idea of being in position, as President of the Unted States, to push the button and bomb away our adversaries — with or without justification.
While there is no constitutional requirement that a person undergo a psychological examination in order to qualify for U. S. President, in the interest of national security John McCain should be required to do so.
The USA is at a cross road, where one direction leads to a continuation of the Bush administration's policy of misleading the American people to justify unnecessary wars, and other unconstitutional acts in the name of national security.
The other direction leads to the establishment of America as a nation that believes and honors the rule of law that is the backbone of our Constitution.
Voters will have the opportunity to continue another four years of the Bush administration by supporting John McCain for President; or, they will have an opportunity to change course and move this nation in a new direction, which will make America the America invisioned by our founding fathers, by electing Barak Obama as President. |
